About Me

DSCF1031

I’ve always wanted to be a writer (heck, as the biological clock ticks towards thirty, who doesn’t)  and I’ve finally written my first book. *fanfare*

It’s a gothic YA novel with lovecraftian creatures, set in the North Yorkshire Moors in the year 1888.  It starts like this:

‘No one even noticed the boy was missing, until it was too late.

His body washed up on the beach, purple and bloated; marble eyes staring up at the sky. Sometimes I still wake in the night and see him lying there on the sand, crabs pouring from his mouth.’

But now comes the hard part.  The edit.

I’ll be writing about the process of writing and editing my book and hopefully getting some advice on how best to get an agent, whilst also writing reviews of other people’s books and suggesting writing prompts for when the dreaded writer’s block strikes.

Whilst I confess I am a book nerd, I’m definitely not a book snob, and I read all manner of books from genre fiction to literary fiction to autobiography to popular science. I think the characters and narratives in video games and film are just as valid and compelling as those in fiction.

I also write another blog called  https://dastardlycrafty.wordpress.com/. which is about the many crafts I enjoy (particularly amigurumi crochet) Take a look if you want to see some of the things I enjoy making.

Thanks for the follow! Are you still teaching while pursuing your author dreams?

Unfortunately yes! 😉 But I find writing to be a great stress relief.
